Serena Owes Osaka An Apology

Serena Williams let her emotions take over her game after her opponent took the opening set of their US Open Finals Match.

The game was close in the second set but Serena was given a series of three violations, for a floodgate of emotions and words which shouldn't have been said plus the smashing of a racket -- which cost her a game, the second set and the match.

Osaka thus becomes the first player representing Japan to win a Grand Slam singles title -- a moment that was supposed to be a special one, not only for her, her team, her friends and family, but also for Japan.

Shame

It was supposed to be a memorable moment, one which cannot be "rewinded" or "replayed" -- shame on Serena for letting her emotions run away like that and the crowd for booing Naomi Osaka, she was the victim here and the rightful winner and she did not deserve any of that disrespect. She won fairly.

Serena's coach, himself admitted to the coaching violation, (seen here @ the New York Post), giving the excuse that everyone does it. Well, they got caught, and they should have been gracious and apologetic.

Apology

After this drama, even though Serena is trying to fight for a cause that she believes in, she should apologize to the WTA and publicly issue an apology to Osaka. But as usual, we probably shouldn't let our hopes up.
